Brass Fest

The New Orleans Original Brass Festival was founded to celebrate the culture and legacy of New Orleans music and its people. It is the first of many events to fund the Non-Profit Organization “Save Our Brass Culture Foundation” which was created to give opportunities for elder and retired local musicians a way to provide income for their families. Save Our Brass Foundation will provide teaching and mentor jobs in the Brass Music community (schools, local jails, and churches).  This organization was created by musicians and for musicians

The event will kick off with a very special Brass Jazz Memorial Tribute honoring brass band musicians who are now deceased, such as Lionel “Uncle Lionel” Batiste, Anthony “Tuba Fats” Lacen,”Dinneral Shavers, Arian Macklin and many more. Click link for more info http://nolabrassfest.com/

Super Sunday 2019 Uptown

Aside from Mardi Gras Day, the most significant day for the Mardi Gras Indians is their Super Sunday which will take place on Sunday, March 17, 2019. The New Orleans Mardi Gras Indian Council always has their Indian Sunday on the third Sunday of March, around St. Joseph's Day. Their festivities begin at noon in A.L. Davis Park (at Washington & LaSalle Streets) where the Mardi Gras Indians once again dress in their feathers and suits and take to the streets to meet other "gangs".  Click link for more info https://www.mardigrasneworleans.com/history/mardi-gras-indians/super-sunday?

St Joseph Night

Under mild skies, the Mardi Gras Indians donned their suits and took to the streets Wednesday (3/19) for their most important event this side of Fat Tuesday.

The St. Joseph's Day celebrations, which also include this coming weekend's Super Sunday parades, are traditionally the only times that Mardi Gras Indians appear in their full regalia outside of Fat Tuesday. With all of the Catholic Italians celebrating this holiday in the streets, the Indians were able to blend in and celebrate as well.
